Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four Chinese ideograms arranged in cruciform reading order. The reign title 順治 (Shunzhi) is read top to bottom, and the currency denomination 通寶 (Tongbao, meaning 'current treasure' or 'circulating currency') is read right to left, together forming the standard four-character obverse legend 順治通寶 associated with the Shunzhi Emperor, third ruler of the Qing dynasty (r. 1644–1661). The characters are rendered in a regular script style typical of Qing-dynasty cast coinage, set in a plain field without additional decorative elements.
