Bolivia's 1945 currency program came at a moment of relative monetary stability following the chaotic inflation of the late 1930s and early 1940s, when successive governments struggled to finance expenditure after the ruinous Chaco War with Paraguay. By 1945 the Banco Central had consolidated its note series through De La Rue, whose Bolivian commissions of this period consistently used the same watermarked cotton stock supplied for multiple Latin American clients.
The 1000 Bolivianos was a high-denomination note in practical terms — worth roughly a laborer's monthly wage at mid-decade exchange rates. Heavy use was normal; well-worn survivors are the rule, not the exception.
