Rwanda's central bank partnered with the Bavarian State Mint for this issue, part of a broader wave of African wildlife bullion-adjacent commemoratives that flooded the collector market in the late 2000s. The four embedded diamonds are genuine, though modest in carat weight — their inclusion was a marketing differentiator in a crowded field of large-format silver with precious-metal plating.
Rwanda held no meaningful domestic minting infrastructure in 2008; the coin was struck entirely in Munich.
