Stanisław Leszczyński holds the unusual distinction of having been King of Poland twice — elected in 1704 under Swedish pressure from Charles XII, deposed, then restored briefly before losing the War of the Polish Succession in 1735. He spent his final decades as Duke of Lorraine, where he became a genuinely effective ruler and patron of the Enlightenment, founding the académie that still bears his name in Nancy.
This coin is part of NBP's long-running Kings and Princes of Poland series, which began in 1979 and remains one of the most systematically documented commemorative programs in Polish numismatics.
