Obverse description The Polish state eagle displayed with wings spread, rendered in a bold, stylised relief characteristic of the People's Republic period, occupying the central field. The eagle faces right with a crown absent, consistent with the communist-era design. Flanking the eagle at left and right are small heraldic shields. A fortified tower or castle gateway is depicted below the eagle at the base. The date 1966 appears in two parts either side of the lower body of the eagle, and the mint mark MW is incorporated into the legend. The circular legend POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA runs around the upper and lower periphery.
