Issued by Soviet military authorities during the occupation of Manchuria and northern China in August–September 1945, these notes were printed in the USSR and released into local circulation alongside existing Manchukuo and Japanese military currency — none of which Soviet forces were obligated to redeem. The practical effect was inflationary: Soviet troops used the notes to purchase goods, the notes multiplied in circulation, and local populations absorbed the cost.
The series is sometimes grouped with other Allied Military Currency of the period, but unlike the AMC issued in Germany or Japan under American authority, these notes carried no formal backing arrangement and no redemption guarantee from any subsequent Chinese authority.
