Reverse description The reverse depicts Zhang Heng's seismoscope (地动仪), the world's first seismograph invented in the 2nd century AD, prominently displayed in the right-center field as a large ornate bronze vessel decorated with dragon motifs and supported on a pedestal with toad figures at its base. To the left, a group of robed Han dynasty court figures observe the instrument with gestures of scholarly attention. Additional toad figurines are arranged around the base of the device, referencing the instrument's directional earthquake-detection mechanism. The denomination 100元 appears in the lower field, and the inscription 地动仪 公元(AD)二世纪 is inscribed in the upper left field.
