The Perched Eagle gold series occupied an unusual niche in China's bullion program during the 1990s — neither a straightforward investment coin nor a purely commemorative piece, it attracted overseas collectors more than domestic buyers at a time when private gold ownership in China remained heavily restricted. Mintages were kept deliberately low, and the 1995 issue was no exception.
KM#872 is the half-ounce denomination of that year's eagle release, produced at the Shanghai Mint.
