Obverse description The national emblem of the People's Republic of China — Tiananmen Gate surmounted by five stars within a wreath of wheat and cogwheel — occupies the upper central field. The Chinese legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs around the emblem. Below, a decorative frieze depicts stylized silhouettes of athletes in motion, and beneath the frieze the inscription 第十二届亚洲运动会纪念 (Commemorating the 12th Asian Games) is inscribed in Chinese characters. The date 1994 appears in the lower exergue.

Reverse description A male gymnast is depicted in dynamic action performing a routine on the parallel bars, his body arched with one leg raised high in a dramatic split position, rendered in finely struck relief against a mirror-polished field with radiating line accents in the background. The curved legend THE 12TH ASIAN GAMES arcs along the upper periphery in Latin capitals. The denomination 100元 appears to the right of the central figure in the field.
