Obverse description The national emblem of the People's Republic of China occupies the central field, depicting the Gate of Tiananmen surmounted by five stars and encircled by a wreath of wheat and rice ears bound at the base by a cogwheel. The Chinese legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs along the upper periphery in Chinese characters. The date 1990 appears in Arabic numerals along the lower rim. A mintmark appears to the right of the central emblem.
