Additional information

The Central Academy of Fine Arts, founded in 1918 as the National Beijing Art School, is the oldest state-run fine arts institution in China. Its centenary in 2018 prompted a small commemorative gold program — this 8g piece among them. The academy's history runs through some of the more turbulent episodes in modern Chinese cultural policy, including its forced merger with other institutions during the Cultural Revolution and its rehabilitation in 1978.
