| Additional information |
Soong Ching-ling — widow of Sun Yat-sen and one of the few figures to hold genuine prestige in both Republican and Communist China — died in 1981 after being granted honorary chairmanship of the PRC just days before her death. The 1993 commemorative marks the centenary of her birth, issued at a moment when the government was actively rehabilitating and institutionalizing her image as a bridge between the two political eras.
KM#539 was struck in a limited proof issue and distributed primarily through the China Gold Coin Corporation. Mintage figures for this type were not widely published at the time of release.
