Obverse description Central field features a dynamic full-figure depiction of a tennis player in mid-stroke, lunging forward with racket extended and a tennis ball visible to the lower left. The four kanji characters of the legend are disposed in the four quadrants surrounding the central motif: 日 (upper left), 本 (upper center-right), 国 (right), 百 (lower left), and 円 (lower right), rendered in stylized square cartouches. A horizontal line appears at the base of the design.

The upper periphery carries the legend OLYMPIC GAMES TOKYO in Latin characters, with 2020 along the right border. The lower arc bears the Japanese inscription 令和2年 (Year 2 of Reiwa) to the left and 100YEN to the right, separated by raised dot dividers.
