Obverse description Black intaglio print with light blue and brown underprint. A vignette of the Yumedono Pavilion (Hall of Dreams, Horyuji Temple complex) appears at left, with a portrait of Prince Shotoku-taishi at right. A four-character Chinese-language overprint is applied across the centre of the note.

Reverse description Printed in brown on plain paper, the reverse is dominated by a central vignette of the Horyuji Temple pagoda set within an ornate cartouche flanked by two stylised dragon figures and rosette medallions bearing the denomination numeral 100 on either side. The Imperial chrysanthemum seal appears at the top centre, with Chinese-character legends arranged vertically in two columns on each lateral margin.
