Obverse description The national arms of Vanuatu occupy the central field, depicting a Melanesian warrior in traditional dress standing before a curved boar's tusk, the whole surmounted by a namele fern. A scroll in the lower portion bears the national motto in Bislama. The date 1996 appears above the shield, with the country name and motto legend arranged around the periphery.

Reverse description A detailed high-relief depiction of the three-masted sailing ship H.M.S. Resolution under full sail, shown underway on stylized waves and sailing to the left. Traditional Melanesian carved prow ornaments appear in the left field, evoking the indigenous cultures encountered during Captain James Cook's second voyage. The legend RESOLUTION and the voyage dates 1772-1774 arc along the upper periphery, with the denomination 100 VATU inscribed in the exergue.
