Issued as part of Mongolia's extensive commemorative program of the 2000s, which leaned heavily on pan-Asian philosophical themes for export-driven collector sales. The Bank of Mongolia contracted several European mints during this period to produce silver-plated base metal issues specifically for the world coin market — pieces rarely if ever intended for domestic circulation.
