| Obverse description | The nickel brass centre features a stylised mythical bird rendered in traditional Kazakh decorative art, its body composed of ornate scrollwork and foliate motifs, faithfully reproducing the design of the original 1993 10 Tenge coin. A small spiral ornament is positioned above the bird in the upper field, while the inscription ТЕҢГЕГЕ 10 ЖЫЛ appears vertically to the right of the central device. The surrounding nickel brass ring bears the Cyrillic legend ҚАЗАҚСТАН РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ along the upper arc and the date 2003 flanked by dots along the lower arc. |

Kazakhstan's bimetallic circulation coinage from this period reflects the young republic's ongoing effort to stabilize a currency infrastructure following the tenge's introduction in 1993, just two years after independence from the Soviet Union. The rooster series drew on the twelve-animal cycle of the Turkic and broader Central Asian calendrical tradition, with 2003 being the Year of the Rooster under that system.
KM#49 is a circulation strike, not a commemorative, making worn survivors more historically representative than pristine examples.
