| Obverse description | The National Coat of Arms of Western Samoa occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing a coconut palm and the Southern Cross constellation of five stars, surmounted by a cross and encircled by a wreath of olive branches. A ribbon scroll below the shield carries the national motto in Latin script: FAAVAE I LE ATUA SAMOA. The legend SAMOA I SISIFO curves along the upper periphery, while the denomination $100 is displayed prominently in the lower field. |

Issued to mark Samoa's participation in the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games, the first Games held in Australia since Melbourne 1956. Tanumafili II had ruled since 1963 as co-head of state alongside Tupua Tamasese Mea'ole, then solely after the latter's death in 1963 — making him one of the longest-serving heads of state in the Pacific at the time of this issue.
Struck in 22-karat gold at a low mintage intended for the collector market, these pieces saw no meaningful circulation.
