The Padma Bridge opened on 25 June 2022 after years of international controversy — the World Bank withdrew its $1.2 billion financing commitment in 2012 over corruption allegations, and Bangladesh ultimately funded the entire $3.87 billion project domestically. That decision transformed the bridge into a political flashpoint well before the first span was laid.

Printed domestically by the Security Printing Corporation in Gazipur, this commemorative issue is notable for being produced entirely within Bangladesh — no foreign security printer involved. For a commemorative of this profile, that is itself part of the story the note is meant to tell.
