Obverse description The national coat of arms of Uganda occupies the central field, depicting a shield charged with a sun in rays above a traditional drum, supported on the dexter by a Uganda kob (antelope) rampant and on the sinister by a grey crowned crane, both standing on a grassy compartment with the national flower. A scroll below bears the national motto in the legend. The issuer's name BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 100 SHILLINGS is inscribed at the base of the field.

Additional information

Uganda issued this coin to commemorate the July 1981 wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, joining a wave of Commonwealth mints that produced silver commemoratives for the occasion. Uganda's participation was notable given the country was barely months removed from the fall of Idi Amin's regime and the chaos of the Uganda-Tanzania War — the national economy was in ruins, and these coins were produced almost entirely for export sale rather than domestic circulation.
