Additional information

Somalia's elephant bullion series, launched in 2011, was produced not by the Somali government in any functional sense but by the Bavarian State Mint in Munich under licensing arrangements — a common workaround that allows internationally recognized sovereign names to appear on privately marketed bullion coins. The Somali state had no meaningful central banking infrastructure at the time of issue.

The series competes directly in the one-ounce silver bullion market alongside the Britannia and Krugerrand, with annual design changes driving collector demand beyond pure metal value.
