Reverse description The central field features a full-colour applied image of an adult African elephant walking to the right accompanied by a young calf, both depicted in a naturalistic savannah setting with palm trees rendered in colour in the background and sandy ground beneath their feet. The colour treatment employs earth tones and greens to evoke the African landscape. The legend AFRICAN WILDLIFE arcs along the upper border, while ELEPHANT is inscribed along the lower left arc and the fineness and weight specification 1oz Ag 999 appears along the lower right, all within a beaded inner border.

Additional information

Somalia's elephant bullion series, launched in the early 2000s, was produced under licensing arrangements with European minting houses rather than any functioning Somali state apparatus — the country had no effective central government at the time. The coins are legal tender in name only, issued against a nominal face value by transitional authorities whose practical reach rarely extended beyond Mogadishu's contested streets.

KM#182 is the 2007 installment. Mintage figures for this series have never been reliably published by a central issuing authority, which complicates registry population data considerably.
