| Reverse description | The reverse presents a finely detailed high-relief depiction of two African elephants in a naturalistic savanna setting, with a large adult elephant prominently displayed to the left and a second elephant, shown in profile with tusks lowered, occupying the right foreground. A commemorative '15' anniversary privy mark enclosed within a laurel wreath, flanked by the dates '2004' above and '2018' to its right, appears in the upper right field. The legend 'AFRICAN WILDLIFE' curves along the upper border, while 'ELEPHANT' is inscribed along the lower left and '1 oz Ag 9999' along the lower right, all separated by raised dot stops. The composition is executed in a highly polished proof-like finish with frosted design elements. |

Somalia's Elephant series, launched in 2003, emerged from a period when the country had no functioning central government — a detail that makes the issuing authority itself a curiosity. The coins are legal tender of the Federal Republic of Somalia but have always been produced for the collector market by European minting operations, primarily the Bavarian State Mint in Munich.
The 15th anniversary release marks a rare instance of a bullion-adjacent series explicitly commemorating its own continuity. By 2018, the annual design changes had built a following comparable to the Austrian Philharmonic and Chinese Panda programs among date collectors.
