Obverse description Conjoined busts of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, in military dress uniform with decorations, and Duchess Sophie, elegantly attired with a pearl necklace, facing slightly right and occupying the left and centre of the field. The legend ERZHERZOG FRANZ FERDINAND and HERZOGIN SOPHIE curves along the upper periphery. To the right, in bold stacked lettering, the inscriptions REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH, 100 SCHILLING, and the date 1999 appear in the field. The engraver's initials are visible at lower right.

Reverse description A detailed narrative scene depicting the arrival of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and Duchess Sophie in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914. An open touring automobile is shown prominently in the lower field, with several figures in period dress and military uniform rendered in high relief against an architectural background of arched masonry. The legend SARAJEVO 1914 curves along the left periphery, evoking the fateful assassination that precipitated the First World War.
