The Junta da Fazenda Pública — the public treasury board of Portuguese India — issued notes directly rather than through a chartered bank, an arrangement that persisted in Goa long after metropolitan Portugal had moved toward centralized banking institutions. This 100 Rupias note from 1882 predates the Banco Nacional Ultramarino's eventual dominance of Goan paper currency by years, placing it in a brief and administratively awkward window of local treasury issue.

Printed in Nova Goa rather than Lisbon, the production quality reflects colonial workshop limitations. The "ANL" Pick reference signals the note remains unconfirmed in the standard catalogue — surviving examples are rare enough that full documentation has never been completed.
