Additional information

The University of Mysore, founded in 1916 under the patronage of Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, was the first university established in the princely state of Mysore and among the earliest in southern India outside direct British administration. Its centenary fell in a period when the Indian government was issuing commemorative rupee pieces at a pace that drew some collector criticism for diluting the series — dozens of themes were authorized in 2016 alone.

The .500 fineness is consistent with India's commemorative silver policy of the period, a deliberate cost-control measure adopted in the 1990s that halved the silver content from earlier issues without reducing the nominal face value.
