| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by a rich wildlife vignette: two Ceylon Hill Myna (Gracula ptilogenys) appear in the upper register, surmounted by a golden palm civet (Paradoxurus zeylonensis) perched atop a Ceylon wild mango tree (Mangifera zeylanica), while a Talipot palm (Corypha umbraculifera) occupies the central axis and a Ceylon green pit viper (Trimeresurus trigonocephalus) is rendered in the lower half between the palm and a pair of buds, all set against a scenic landscape underprint. Denomination and issuing authority are inscribed in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, with the date 1979-03-26 and two facsimile signatures of the Finance Minister and the Governor of the Central Bank. |
