Swami Chinmayananda founded the Chinmaya Mission in 1953 after studying under Swami Sivananda in Rishikesh, going on to deliver over 600 Jnana Yagnas — extended public lecture series on Vedantic texts — across India and abroad before his death in 1993. The centenary issue marks his 1916 birth year. At .500 fineness, this falls below the silver standard used for most Indian commemoratives of the preceding decades, a cost-driven specification that became increasingly common for RBI issues from the 2010s onward.
