Additional information

Rani Gaidinliu led an armed resistance against British rule in Manipur and Nagaland beginning in 1929, when she was just thirteen years old. Captured in 1932, she spent eleven years in prison before her release following independence. Jawaharlal Nehru gave her the title "Rani" — queen — and she later became a vocal opponent of Naga separatism, a position that made her a complex and contested figure in northeastern Indian politics long after the colonial fight was won.

The .500 fineness is notably low for an Indian commemorative silver issue of this period.
