The 1989 series marked a redesign under the Central Bank of Seychelles, which had only been established in 1983 following the separation of monetary functions from the broader financial administration put in place after the 1977 coup. Thomas De La Rue printed the series in London, as they had done for the earlier Seychelles Monetary Authority issues — continuity of printer despite the institutional change above it.
Security on this issue is limited to a watermark, with no metallic thread. Later replacements added a security thread as standard.
