| Reverse description | The reverse presents a sweeping panoramic landscape dominated by a towering Kamchatkan volcano whose snow-streaked flanks rise dramatically to fill the upper field, rendered in finely detailed frosted relief against a mirror-polished background. A flock of cranes in flight crosses the mid-field before the dark volcanic slope, conveying a sense of untamed wilderness. In the foreground, a Kamchatka brown bear wades through a rocky river, while a second bear is visible among the vegetation on the right bank, flanked on both sides by dense trees and shrubs. The Cyrillic legend ВУЛКАНЫ КАМЧАТКИ curves along the upper left of the field, integrated into the landscape composition. The design exemplifies high-relief numismatic artistry celebrating the UNESCO World Heritage natural site of the Volcanoes of Kamchatka. |

Issued as part of Russia's long-running natural wonders series, this kilo-weight piece commemorates the Kamchatka volcanic zone — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996 encompassing six separate protected areas across the peninsula. Kamchatka hosts roughly 300 volcanoes, of which 29 are active, making it one of the most volcanically dense regions on Earth. The peninsula's remoteness kept it closed to foreign visitors entirely until 1990, a consequence of Soviet-era military installations along the Pacific coast.
The Bank of Russia's large-format silver issues of this period were struck at the Moscow Mint (MMD) with relatively modest mintages — typically under 500 pieces for kilo coins in this series.
