The Transcaucasian Commissariat existed for less than six months — from November 1917 to April 1918 — a fragile anti-Bolshevik coalition of Georgian Mensheviks, Armenian Dashnaks, and Azerbaijani Musavatists that could agree on little except opposition to Moscow. These notes were issued into that vacuum, functioning as emergency currency for a territory that had not yet decided what it was. The Commissariat dissolved before most of its paper had a chance to circulate widely, replaced almost immediately by the short-lived Transcaucasian Democratic Federative Republic and then three separate successor states.

Surviving examples in any condition are genuinely scarce given the brevity and chaos of the issuing authority's existence.
