| Obverse description | Central intaglio vignette of an allegorical female figure seated, wreathed in flowers and holding a sheaf of wheat, surrounded by a basket of fruit and agricultural produce, rendered in fine engraved style. Ornate guilloche cornerpieces carry the denomination numeral '100' in four corners, with the date '1918' printed at left and right. The title inscription 'ГОСУДАРСТВЕННЫЙ КРЕДИТНЫЙ БИЛЕТЪ' (State Credit Note) runs across the top, with 'СТО РУБЛЕЙ' (One Hundred Roubles) in bold lettering at the foot of the vignette, flanked by the facsimile signatures of the Manager and Cashier. |

The Russian Provisional Government that authorized this note had ceased to exist long before it entered circulation — the Bolsheviks seized power in October 1917, yet production of this series continued well into 1918 under the new regime, which lacked the printing infrastructure to replace it immediately. The result is a note issued in the name of a government that had already fallen.
Two signature combinations are documented for Pick 40: Roshkovskiy paired with either Vasilev or Tolstovets. The 1945 print date in the catalog data almost certainly refers to a reference publication date, not production — no Provisional Government note was pressed in 1945.
