Panteleimon of Nicomedia was executed under Diocletian around 305 AD, and his veneration spread rapidly through both Eastern and Western Christianity — though he holds particular importance in Orthodox tradition as one of the Holy Unmercenary Healers. The Belarusian National Bank issued a substantial series of gold religious commemoratives throughout the 2000s and 2010s, targeting the collector market rather than circulation, with this piece among the more elaborately produced examples due to the zirconia inlay work.
KM#B179 is catalogued within a broader Orthodox saints series. Mintages for these issues were typically very low, often in the hundreds.
