Additional information

Transnistria issued this coin in the same year it was deepening diplomatic ties with other unrecognized post-Soviet states — Abkhazia and South Ossetia — through the Community for Democracy and Rights of Nations. Anton Rubinstein's connection to the region is direct: he was born in 1829 in Vikhvatinets, a village on the Dniester River now within Transnistrian-controlled territory, making him one of the few figures of genuine international renown that the breakaway state could credibly claim as its own.

Rubinstein founded the Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1862, the first institution of its kind in Russia.
