Additional information

Sharjah's 1970 coinage program was an openly commercial venture — the emirate had no meaningful monetary infrastructure and issued gold-denominated pieces almost entirely for the international collector market, not circulation. The "Khālid III Napoleon" designation references the Napoleonic-format portrait used on certain issues, a deliberate aesthetic choice aimed at European buyers familiar with French imperial coinage traditions.

Reverse trials in gold-plated bronze from this series were produced to test die alignment and surface detail before committing to precious metal strikes. Their survival outside mint archives is largely accidental.
