This copper pattern was produced in 1865 during a turbulent stretch of Tunisian financial history — the Bey Ahmad ibn Mustafa had already driven the beylik into catastrophic debt financing his modernization program, and by 1869 Tunisia would declare bankruptcy and submit to an international financial commission. Patterns like this one reflect the monetary experimentation of a government scrambling for viable coinage solutions before that collapse arrived. The Pn12 designation confirms it never progressed to circulation.
