| Obverse description | Youthful diademed bust of Queen Maria II facing left, her hair elaborately dressed in tight curls and gathered into a chignon at the nape, adorned with a jewelled diadem along the crown of the head. The truncation of the neck is plain and unadorned. The circumferential legend reads MARIA·II·PORTUG:ET·ALGARB·REGINA, with the date 1843 centred at the bottom of the field below the bust. The entire design is contained within a finely toothed border. |
