Obverse description The obverse is printed in brown and grey tones on pale paper, with the denomination «ONE HUNDRED» appearing in two ornate cartouches at upper left and upper right flanking a central vignette of the Bank of Scotland's armorial supporters. The issuer's title «BANK OF SCOTLAND» is set in bold letterpress across the upper central field, below which a handwritten-style promise-to-pay clause reads «The Governor & Company of the Bank of Scotland Promise to pay here to the Bearer on Demand One Hundred Pounds Sterling». The denomination «£100» appears in large figures at lower left and lower right, with the date and serial number positioned in the upper central area, and a manuscript signature of the Chief Accountant across the centre.
