Reverse description The reverse depicts two colossal seated statues of Pharaoh Ramses II rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field, closely modelled on the famous colossi at the Abu Simbel or Luxor temple complex. Both figures wear the nemes headdress and are shown enthroned, with hands resting on their knees; smaller standing figures of family members are carved in relief at their sides and between their legs. The rectangular throne bases are decorated with rows of hieroglyphic inscriptions and figural carvings in faithful reproduction of the ancient originals. The design occupies nearly the full coin face, with no legend or lettering on the reverse, the entire decorative emphasis placed on the sculptural rendering of the ancient monument. A beaded border frames the composition.
