| Reverse description | A faithful large-format reproduction of William Wyon's celebrated 1839 Una and the Lion design, struck in high relief with a deeply frosted field. The allegorical figure of Una, representing Queen Victoria as a young sovereign, stands erect in flowing classical robes, her left hand resting upon the mane of a great lion who crouches submissively at her side; she holds an orb and sceptre, symbolising regal authority. The motto DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS (May God direct my steps) arcs across the upper field in two parts flanking the central composition, while the Roman numeral date MDCCCXXXIX appears in the lower field above the engraver's signature W. WYON R.A. inscribed along the lower border, all contained within a beaded inner circle. |
