Reverse description Dynamic high-relief depiction of the legendary combat between the hero Beowulf and the monster Grendel, drawn from the Old English epic poem. Grendel, rendered as a fearsome, muscular beast with clawed hands and fanged jaws, lunges from the upper left, while the armoured Beowulf crouches at centre-right, raising a round shield in defence and brandishing a spear. An architectural interior suggestive of the mead-hall Heorot is detailed in the background. The legend BEOWULF & GRENDEL arcs across the upper field, with the date 2024 at right; the fineness and weight inscription 1 OZ·FINE GOLD·999.9 appears along the lower field, and the engraver's initials DL are present in the lower right of the design.
