Additional information

The Royal Mint confirmed Charles III as the obverse authority for UK coinage following his accession in September 2022, with Jody Clark's portrait — already familiar from the Elizabeth II series — adapted for the new effigy. Coins bearing his likeness face left, continuing the alternating-direction convention observed by every British monarch since Charles II, with one notable exception: Edward VIII, who insisted on facing left to show his preferred profile, breaking protocol before his abdication rendered the question moot.
