Obverse description The upper portion carries the Bank of Scotland arms at centre, flanked by two medallion vignettes — one at left bearing an equestrian figure and one at right — with the denomination ONE HUNDRED repeated in red letterpress panels at upper left and upper right. A central allegorical group vignette sits beneath the arms, above the text panel. The lower half contains the promise-to-pay legend in script lettering over a blue guilloche underprint medallion, with £100 numerals in large intaglio at lower left and right, and the seal of the bank incorporated into the design. The note is printed in brown and blue with ornate floral and scroll borders throughout.

Reverse description The reverse is unprinted, showing only the blind emboss and faint impression of the obverse design visible as a ghost through the paper, consistent with single-sided letterpress production.
