Obverse description The silver centre features the Mexican national coat of arms, depicting a Mexican golden eagle passant perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock in a lake, devouring a serpent; the design is rendered in high relief against a plain field. The aluminium bronze outer ring bears the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcing along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering. Decorative oak and laurel branches tied with a bow ornament the lower portion of the ring, flanking the junction of the two metals.
