Obverse description Draped bust of Jose Gervasio Artigas, national hero and father of Uruguayan independence, facing slightly left and centered in the field. The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and civilian dress. The peripheral legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY curves along the upper rim, while the name ARTIGAS appears in large incuse letters along the lower rim. The engraver's signature ORELLANA is visible at the lower right of the bust truncation.

Reverse description The denomination 100 PESOS and the date 1972 appear in three lines at the center of the field, flanked by decorative olive or laurel branches curving upward on either side. The Santiago mint mark appears at the top of the design above the central legend. The overall composition is formal and heraldic in style, typical of Latin American coinage patterns of the period.
