Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupy the gold centre field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent in its beak and talon. The eagle is rendered in high relief with finely detailed feathering. An oak and laurel wreath, struck in the silver outer ring, frames the lower portion of the central device. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery of the silver ring in raised Latin capital letters against a deeply mirrored proof field.
