Part of the Mexican Mint's long-running series celebrating individual states, this issue honors Michoacán de Ocampo — the state renamed in 1824 to commemorate Melchor Ocampo, the liberal reformer executed by conservative forces in 1861. The silver-core bimetallic format was a deliberate choice for the series, positioning these as collectibles rather than circulation pieces from the outset.
