The 100 Pesos bimetallic series, issued by Banco de México under legislation passed in 2000, was conceived as a long-running commemorative program cycling through pre-Columbian and national historical themes on silver-center planchets. KM#967 falls within the Republican sub-series, which drew recurring political scrutiny over selection criteria — which figures merited inclusion was never a neutral decision in post-PRI Mexico. These coins circulated as legal tender but were almost universally pulled from circulation immediately by collectors, meaning truly worn examples are the anomaly.
