Obverse description The obverse features the Mexican national coat of arms rendered in high relief within the silver centre: a Mexican golden eagle perched in profile upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock amid water, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons. The aluminium bronze outer ring bears the arc legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS along the upper periphery, flanked at the lower portion by two ornamental branches — an oak sprig to the left and a laurel sprig to the right — tied together at the base with a ribbon, all executed in the classic republican style.
