Reverse description A bust-length portrait of Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, the first governor of Cuba, is displayed within a wreath formed of laurel branches. The legend V CENTENARIO, flanked by five-pointed stars, arcs across the upper periphery in reference to the quincentenary of Columbus's 1492 voyage, while DIEGO VELAZQUEZ appears below the portrait along with the commemorative date 1492. The issue year 1991 and the mint mark are inscribed to the left of the central effigy. A rope border runs close to the rim, echoing the obverse design.
